James G. Wetrich, FACHE

James Wetrich has been involved in health care for more than 25 years. Jim attended the University of Southern California (USC) where he earned a B.S. in Biological Sciences. Following graduation from USC, he attended Tulane University where he earned a Master of Health Administration with a concentration in financial management. Jim spent the next eight years of his career on the provider side of health care, working in a variety of capacities. He worked in hospital administration at Ochsner Hospital, as Vice President of the Metropolitan Hospital Council of New Orleans and as Vice President with Pitts Management Associates. During his time with David Pitts at PMA, he played an instrumental role in the development of the University HealthSystem Consortium. Jim later joined UHC as the Director of Business Development.

Jim left UHC and the provider side of the industry to join Abbott Laboratories as Manager of Corporate Strategic Planning. While at Abbott, Jim spent four years in product marketing, two years as Marketing Director for European Operations, two years as Director of HealthSystem Sales and four years as Divisional Vice President for National Accounts where he handled Abbott’s largest customer, Novation. At the time of his departure from Abbott, Jim’s responsibilities at Novation exceeded one billion dollars.

Jim departed from Abbott to join Premier as the Vice President and General Manager of Supply Chain Relationship Management. Three months after joining Premier, his position was eliminated in a restructuring. Following this, Jim started The Wetrich Group in 2001.

Jim is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and has received the Outstanding Alumnus Award from Tulane University. In August of 2007, he enrolled in the modular executive MBA program at the Goizueta School of Business at Emory University. Jim feels that the human life cycle is similar to a product’s life cycle: introduction, growth, maturity and decline. His primary purpose for attending Goizueta is to redraw the human life cycle graph and to extend the maturity phase. Jim sees the process as a period of renewal, re-education and revitalization.

Jim currently serves on the Meals on Wheels Association of American Foundation Board. He was previously a member of the Baxa Corporation, McKesson Medication Management and Xerox Healthcare Advisory Councils.
