TOP TIPS – What is your Job Search Strategy?

Overall, you want to use SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely.

Specific: Clearly state the Specific things you want to accomplish.

Saying “I will work 40 hours on my job search” without knowing specific steps leaves you floating in a fog, with no direction.

Measurable: Make sure these goals are Measurable, in no uncertain terms.

Be sure you are always tracking your number of contacts, target companies, applications, submitted and LinkedIn contacts made.

Attainable: Your weekly goals should be actually Attainable so that you stay motivated and not overwhelmed by trying to do too much.

Similarly, don’t make the goals too easy.

Realistic: A Realistic goal helps you stay focused while taking into account the actual time that a job search process may take.

It’s not realistic to say “I will get a job in 2 weeks.”

Timely: If you don’t have a real deadline for reaching these goals, they can stretch on forever.

Every job search needs a sense of urgency so you don’t miss out on opportunities by procrastinating.
