What is Organizational Psychology?

Organizational Psychology = The Science of Smart Hiring

In my many years as an industrial psychologist, I often get blank stares when first describing my career to someone new.  What is an industrial-organizational psychologist?  Why would I need one?

Clients initially wonder how I can help them with their hiring.  The answer is pretty simple.  We help you put the ‘right people on the bus’….and then ensure that they are sitting in the right seat.  Having the right people in the right positions makes a big difference.  We help organizations scrutinize talent more carefully.  Bringing the right people into the organization helps it run smoothly and productively.

So, how do we do this?  We use data.  Our standard management assessment includes a battery of tests (including personality and cognitive measures) and an interview to produce a detailed report of a candidate’s strengths/weaknesses and suitability for a role.

To be clear – we are NOT clinical psychologists.  We don’t get involved in psychological disorders, etc.  Our field is oriented towards helping organizations/businesses run more smoothly by focusing on hiring, training, and retaining the right talent.

Throughout my 25 year career as a practitioner, I have assessed thousands of candidates.  I understand the importance of matching a person to a unique position within a company and culture.  Let me know if you would like to discuss our process in greater detail or see a sample of our report.
